RBC Roy­al Bank area vice pres­i­dent in charge of busi­ness bank­ing ((East/Cen­tral/To­ba­go), Sharon Ma­haraj, sec­ond from left, demon­strates her mu­si­cal abil­i­ty much to the de­light of some mem­bers of the Bird­song Acad­e­my short­ly af­ter the bank pledged more than $120,000 to the acad­e­my and the He­roes Foun­da­tion through its in­vest­ment work with the non-gov­ern­men­tal or­gan­i­sa­tion (NGO) sec­tor in sup­port of young mu­si­cians. The acad­e­my teach­es chil­dren be­tween the ages of 12to 18 to read mu­sic and take part in mo­ti­va­tion and coach­ing ses­sions. The mu­sic lit­er­a­cy pro­gramme takes place dur­ing the Ju­ly to Au­gust va­ca­tion, and con­tin­ues with Sat­ur­day class­es dur­ing the aca­d­e­m­ic year. To date, over 600 young mu­si­cians have ben­e­fit­ted from the pro­gramme.
