Digicel TT Pro League leader Defence Force will be seeking to welcome the new year with its fifth consecutive victory and top spot when it takes on seventh-placed St Ann's Rangers at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, from 8 pm.
The match will commence two hours after the start of Super Friday, when last-placed struggling club T&TEC and Police kick off the double-header from 6 pm.
Defence Force and Rangers met twice already this season with the 'Soldiers' taking away a 2-1 victory in match-day one, a mirror result of the second meeting in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 First Citizens Cup.
Defence Force assistant coach Marvin Gordon, however, believes that every contest will be a tough one.
"We can't take Rangers for granted," said Gordon. "They are playing really good football and just need to put away their chances. I don't think that any team in the Pro League is going to be an easy opponent for us."
"But, in terms of our camp, the spirit is very high," he added. "We want to continue with the form we finished last year with by defeating W Connection 5-1. The Christmas break didn't really affect us because we have been on the training pitch. We are at the top of the standings now and everyone knows that you have to work twice as hard in staying there."
Gordon, who guided Defence Force to the final of the Toyota Classic last month with a runner-up finish, said further, "Mentally, physically and tactically our players are prepared. It's just for Ross (Russell) and I to select the right squads."
Defence Force was defeated just once in the first round, falling 4-2 against Caledonia on October 26, the same side that defeated the 'Soldiers' earlier that month in the final of the First Citizens Cup, and drew once against North East Stars 3-3 in match-day two in the same month.
Keeping a close chase on Defence Force is Caledonia AIA, which stands on 13 points from four wins, a draw and a loss. Caledonia also remains with a match in hand.
Since suffering an opening 3-1 defeat against North East Stars in match-day one and managing a 1-1 draw against defending champions DirecTV W Connection in match-day two, the Morvant-Laventille club has never looked back defeating Defence Force 4-2, T&TEC FC 6-0, Police FC 5-1 and Central FC 5-2 in its last four league outings.
Caledonia will again meet third-placed North East Stars (10 points) from 8 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva, tomorrow. Two hours earlier, Central FC and W Connection will meet for the first time at the same venue.
