Founded in 1992, The University of the West Indies Press celebrated 20 years of publishing Caribbean scholarship in October 2012. To honour the contribution of all its stakeholders and authors in its publishing programme, the Press will hold its Twentieth Anniversary and Author Awards Ceremony in Jamaica on January 24 at The University of the West Indies Regional Headquarters.
According to Director Linda Speth: "The UWI Press Twentieth Anniversary and Author Awards Ceremony is designed to celebrate the contribution of all 16 countries as it relates to the creation and dissemination of the Caribbean scholarship produced by the press."
Among the 15 award categories will be the Chancellor's Personal Award, the Vice Chancellor's Personal Award, Bestselling Scholarly Monograph, Bestselling Textbook, Bestselling Edited Collection, Bestselling General Interest Book and Bestselling Kindle Book.
The UWI Press is a not-for-profit scholarly publisher serving local, regional and international markets. The Press publishes in 13 academic disciplines and is particularly well known for its work in Caribbean history, Caribbean cultural studies, Caribbean literature, gender studies, education and political science.
The press has over 350 books in print and has 60 of these books available in the Kindle and Kobo stores. Its books are peer-reviewed and approved by an editorial committee composed of local and international scholars.
Over the last twenty years UWI Press has won 42 international, regional and national book awards for scholarly, editorial and production excellence.
