Leader of The Platform of Truth (TPT) Hochoy Charles is rejecting a suggestion by PNM leader Dr Keith Rowley that the two parties can work together, saying he has no intention of partnering with the PNM.
He also denies that he has received party funding from the PNM to split votes in the January 21 THA election. At a public meeting in Scarborough on Sunday, Rowley told the gathering that if Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar could join with Ashworth Jack to "ruin the country," then he could "join with Hochoy Charles and Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj to build this country."
But Charles said yesterday he does not believe the PNM has Tobago at heart. He accused the PNM leader of simply seeking to come to Tobago to gain momentum to win the next general election. "Dr Rowley is fighting to replace the prime minister. How could we join together? We can't join together.
He denied claims by the Tobago Organisation of the People that his party was being funded by the PNM. "Funding? The answer is no. We are saying that the PNM ought not to be here. They are irrelevant to these elections. They are fighting to control Tobago and you mean the PNM would be financing the TPT to destroy them (Tobagonians) like that?
