KINGSTON—A British schoolgirl has been fatally shot while visiting relatives in a tiny village in northern Jamaica. Jamaica’s government says eight-year-old Imani Green of South London was standing at a roadside store with family members when a lone gunman opened fire. The child was hit in the head and shoulder and died from her injuries at a hospital.

Three adult members of her family were also shot during the Friday-night attack in Duncans Village. They were in stable condition. Police said yesterday it is believed to be some sort of revenge attack, but investigations were ongoing. Justice Minister Peter Bunting says the “senseless killing of a young, innocent child must outrage all well-thinking Jamaicans.” The British Foreign Office says it is providing consular assistance and working with local officials.
