Resh­ma Ra­goonath

Po­lice ar­rest­ed a man mo­ments af­ter he crashed a stolen car on Sat­ur­day night. He is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear in court to­mor­row charged with the lar­ce­ny of a ve­hi­cle. Po­lice said the own­er parked on the South­ern Main Road near Busy Cor­ner, Ch­agua­nas, left the car idling with the keys in the ig­ni­tion and walked a short dis­tance away. Two min­utes lat­er, he re­turned and saw a man get­ting in­to the car. Af­ter a strug­gle, the thief drove off in the car.

Ch­agua­nas po­lice, who re­spond­ed to the car theft, pur­sued the stolen car un­til it was crashed in­to the fence at the Ch­agua­nas Mag­is­trates' Court. The sus­pect jumped out of the car and ran away, but was acught a short dis­tance from the crash by Cen­tral Di­vi­sion Task Force and CID of­fi­cers. Ch­agua­nas po­lice are al­so in­ves­ti­gat­ing a se­ries of car break-ins on Sat­ur­day night. Three ve­hi­cles, a Toy­ota Hilux, Toy­ota Corol­la wag­on and a Nis­san Almera, were bro­ken in­to and cash and valu­ables stolen near Club In­dia, Ch­agua­nas. When the own­ers re­turned to their mo­tor ve­hi­cles around 3 am they found the win­dows smashed and the items miss­ing. In a un­re­lat­ed mat­ter, Cou­va po­lice are search­ing for two men who robbed a bar own­er and two cus­tomers on Sat­ur­day night.
