Bail yes­ter­day was set at $100,000 for a 66-year-old man who al­leged­ly struck and killed a woman po­lice con­sta­ble with his car over a year ago.Ramjit Sookdeo of Ma­hase Road, Pe­nal, who was ar­rest­ed on a war­rant, ap­peared be­fore Cou­va mag­is­trate In­dra Ramoo-Haynes. He is charged with caus­ing the death of WPC Ang­ie Beck­les-Gor­don, 44, by dan­ger­ous dri­ving. The charge is in­dictable so he was not called up­on to plead.

Beck­les-Gor­don was on traf­fic du­ty on De­cem­ber 7, 2011 on the Solomon Ho­choy High­way, near Presyal Fly­over, when she was hit by a car. She died while un­der­go­ing emer­gency treat­ment at the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. She was the sis­ter of at­tor­ney Kei­th Beck­les. Po­lice pros­e­cu­tor Sgt Pe­ter Fran­cis did not ob­ject to bail.The mat­ter was ad­journed to Feb­ru­ary 13.
