Bail yesterday was set at $100,000 for a 66-year-old man who allegedly struck and killed a woman police constable with his car over a year ago.Ramjit Sookdeo of Mahase Road, Penal, who was arrested on a warrant, appeared before Couva magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes. He is charged with causing the death of WPC Angie Beckles-Gordon, 44, by dangerous driving. The charge is indictable so he was not called upon to plead.
Beckles-Gordon was on traffic duty on December 7, 2011 on the Solomon Hochoy Highway, near Presyal Flyover, when she was hit by a car. She died while undergoing emergency treatment at the San Fernando General Hospital. She was the sister of attorney Keith Beckles. Police prosecutor Sgt Peter Francis did not object to bail.The matter was adjourned to February 13.
