President of the Joint Consultative Council for the Construction Industry Afra Raymond, in a phone interview with the T&T Guardian yesterday, said meetings between the Highway Review Committee and the stakeholders in the San Fernando to Point Fortin Highway were ongoing. Raymond said he was not in a position to provide an update, as he was neither on the team nor directly involved in the committee's deliberations.
However, he said the committee had a lot of work to complete in three weeks and the JCC would be issuing another statement next week. The committee was established to review the Debe to Mon Desir segment of the Solomon Hochoy Highway. Anyone can submit information to the committee via e-mail at hrc2012tt@gmail.com or call 293-5147 or 347-6319 for an appointment. The deadline for submissions is tomorrow.
It was given 60 days to review all relevant documentation. It was set up after an agreement was signed between the JCC and the Government on December 5, 2012, during Highway Re-route Movement leader Dr Wayne Kublalsingh's hunger strike.
