Two foreigners held with $10m cocaine

Two European nationals were held and more than $10 million in pure cocaine seized during a joint police and Coast Guard exercise off Chacachacare on Monday morning. According to reports, shortly after 9 am, a Coast Guard interceptor on a routine patrol off the island spotted two men offloading plastic packages onto the shore from a vessel docked at a jetty. The officers confronted the two who surrendered.
The lawmen recovered 25 one-kilo packages of cocaine which they said had a street value of $10.6 million. Investigators believe the two planned to store the drugs on the island until arrangements were made to export them to Europe. The suspects, a 69-year-old German and a 25-year-old Scotsman, were handed over to detectives from the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearm Bureau (OCNFB), who are continuing investigations.
The two are expected to be slapped with drug trafficking charges later this week.
