A Princes Town man accused of rape was yesterday freed after the alleged victim admitted she had lied to protect her boyfriend. The girl was 13 when she falsely accused Ryan Ramkissoon of rape on September 26, 2005. Ramkissoon, 26, was on trial before Justice Carla Brown-Antoine and an all-male jury in the San Fernando Fourth Assize. After being discharged, Ramkissoon said he was heading to church to give thanks.
In her evidence in chief, the victim said on September 21, 2005, she met Ramkissoon and a man named Colin, both of whom she knew, at the Princes Town Maxi Stand. She said Colin took her to a house in Craignish Village, where she stayed for a night, and then returned home.
The girl said she returned to the house on September 26 and that night, Colin held her down and Ramkissoon had sex with her for about five minutes. The next day, her mother took her to the Princes Town Police Station, where she reported the incident.
However, under cross-examination by attorney Kevin Ratiram, she admitted Colin was her boyfriend and she had sex with him and not Ramkissoon.
