Eight limers wounded in Beetham shooting

Eight people, among them three women, were wounded when gunmen raided a lime in Beetham Gardens on Thursday night. According to police reports, around 9 pm, a group of friends were playing cards and dominoes at a house at 24th Street, Beetham Gardens, when they saw two strangers walking towards them.

 

When they got closer, without warning the two men drew guns and started shooting at the group. All eight limers were wounded as they tried to escape. After they attacked the group, the men ran towards the Beetham Highway, where police believe they escaped in a waiting car.

 

Those injured were identified as: Terry Roget, 40; Clint Clark, 38; Debbie Joseph, 34; Natasha Lara, 30; Sophia Bayer 33; Horace Sylvester 62; Christopher Gabriel, 27, and Kerwin Reyes 26,  all of 22nd and 24th Streets, Beetham Gardens. Investigators said none of the victims’ wounds were deemed life-threatening, by doctors. The victims remained warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital up to late yesterday.

 

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting. They said the victims were not known to the police and were not involved in gang-related or criminal activity in the community. ASP Ajith Persad, Insps Sahadeo Singh and Mervyn Edwards of the Port-of-Spain CID are investigating.
