The fu­ner­al ser­vice for Fr Hen­ry Charles will be held at 9.30 am on Wednes­day at the Church of the As­sump­tion, Long Cir­cu­lar Road, Mar­aval. His fel­low priest and broth­er Fr Her­bert Charles will of­fi­ci­ate at the ser­vice. They both cel­e­brat­ed their 40th an­niver­sary as priests last year. Their sis­ter is ex­pect­ed from Eng­land to at­tend the fu­ner­al.

CC­SJ (Catholic Com­mis­sion for So­cial Jus­tice) chair and CRE­DI di­rec­tor Leela Ramdeen said at his re­quest no eu­lo­gies will be giv­en for Charles at his fu­ner­al as he be­lieved eu­lo­gies had lost their mean­ing. So his wish­es will be ho­n­oured, she said.

On Jan­u­ary 15, Charles died of a heart at­tack, six days af­ter his 69th birth­day. That morn­ing he was dis­cov­ered in his study af­ter he did not ar­rive at St Mary's Church, St James, where he was parish priest, for a sched­uled fu­ner­al. He will be buried at the Lapey­rouse Ceme­tery, Port-of-Spain.
