Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) political leader Ashworth Jack is refuting reports that his party is engaging in telephone canvassing on Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election day.

In a media release issued this morning, Jack described those reports as "election day propaganda" by the People's National Movement (PNM).

Jack's release said, "The TOP has no knowledge of such an activity and has issued no such authorization. The TOP rejects these blatant attempts by the PNM to interfere with the smooth running of the election by interjecting unsubstantiated and wild allegations."

Jack also said his party was committed "to free and fair elections".

After a heated THA campaign, Tobagonians go to the polls today to select the politicians who will control the Assembly for the next four years.

The TOP release came hours after the Elections and Boundaries Commission this morning issued a statement saying it had received reports "that potential voters are receiving text messages and or phone calls urging them to vote for a particular political party".

The Commission is advising that persons receiving such requests while in the precincts of a polling station to report the matter to the police.

Also in the tight three-way fight is former chief secretary Hochoy Charles' new Tobago Platform for Truth party.
