Three men have appeared in court charged with theft and damage to a Dutch boat moored off the Hyatt Hotel, Port-of-Spain.Scevron Moses, 21, Joel Baptiste, 19, and Sheldon Paul, 19, were not called upon to enter a plea when they appeared before Magistrate Gloria Jasmath in the Port-of-Spain Eleventh Court on Friday.
The court heard from Sgt Azad Ali that on January 14, 2012, the men broke into the MV Ferah, owned by Dutchman Rene Koerts, which had been anchored half a nautical mile off the Hyatt.They were accused of unlawfully and maliciously damaging a porthole window, doors, a cash machine, an air-conditioned unit and two locks.
The men were also charged with stealing a bag of rice, a line-throw device, six parachute rockets, six hand-flares, a tank from an outboard engine and a food processor and accessories.Ali told the court Koerts was a visiting businessman who lived aboard the MV Ferah when he came to do business.
