The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) soon may be working closely with the police Cyber Crime Unit after an image of Tobago PNM leader Orville London appeared on a Web site showing him dressed as a pirate and holding two moneybags. The site also said London "ain't got no time for Tobago. No school, no ambulance, no gas station, no help."
Contacted yesterday, Alvin Pascall, the THA's senior counsel, said if it was a definite case of libel then the legal team would examine its options. He said the matter had not been brought to his attention and he could not say when or if the THA's legal team would be discussing it. He said during election season all sorts of allegations were levelled against people in public office.
However, Pascall said he was the senior attorney to former prime minister Patrick Manning and other former government ministers like Colm Imbert and Ken Valley and never advised them to bring a lawsuit against anybody. "When the matter comes to my attention I imagine we would look at what our options are, but in matters involving libel there is no limitation period," Pascall added.
London, who also criticised the Web site, described it as an attack on the country's democracy. He said he was unaware who created the site but vowed to get to the bottom of it. "I am going to have this investigated both from a technical and legal perspective. If actions have to be taken I would definitely take the action," London had said.
