A prisoner and a security guard were injured yesterday morning when a prisoner transport truck overturned on the Uriah Butler Highway near Guayamare. Police said around 8.20 am, the security guard, who was identified by police as estate constable Parris, was driving along the highway en route to the Chaguanas Magistrates Court.
While driving along the southbound lane of the highway, Parris reportedly had to swerve onto the median which separates the south and northbound lanes, to avoid a potential accident. Investigators said the truck travelled 300 feet along the strip of grass, before it ran into an embankment and overturned. The accident caused bumper-to-bumper traffic on both carriageways of the highway.
