People's Partnership MP Anil Roberts, congratulating the PNM on its Tobago victory, has warned People's National Movement that "the Champions' League" is soon coming with "a higher level of competition." Roberts was one of several government members who congratulated the PNM during yesterday's Senate session as they answered questions on the early part of the agenda.
Yesterday in the Senate, PNM senators were all dressed or accessorised in red following the PNM's 12-seat defeat of the Tobago Organisation of the People in the THA polls on Monday. Roberts, in the Senate to answer an Opposition question, began by congratulating the PNM.
Roberts said: "It was a trouncing, and well done over there. I must say congratulations. But I must also remind them that they've now qualified and they've won the Caribbean T20 and the Champions' League is soon coming. That's a higher level of competition!"
Following suit was Trade Minister Stephen Cadiz, who was also present to answer an Opposition question. Cadiz said: "Mainly because tourism forms a great part of Tobago's economy, I've already written THA chief secretary Orville London seeking a meeting on tourism to see how we could move forward and see how we'll collaborate and how to build tourism in Tobago."
Finance Minister Larry Howai also said, "I'd like to extend congratulations to the other side for the events of Monday January 21, and my best wishes to the THA in the governance process in the next few years."
At Tuesday's House of Representatives session, the day after the PNM's historic THA election victory, ministers including House leader Roodal Moonilal, National Security Minister Jack Warner and Labour Minister Errol McLeod, who answered questions on that day's agenda, did not extend similar congratulations to the PNM MPs.
