Two men accused of robbing and receiving stolen jewelry from Khan's Gold Designs, Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, last week Saturday did not reappear before in the Port-of-Spain Magistrates Court yesterday. Uriah Jones and Chad Raymond were remanded in absentia when their matters were called after police decided not to bring any prisoners to court yesterday.
The T&T Guardian learnt the decision was because of a chicken pox outbreak in the prison. Jones, 29, and Raymond, 17, both of Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain, on Thursday appeared before Magistrates Melvin Daniel and Gloria Jasmath respectively. They were remanded in custody to reappear yesterday pending tracing.
Jones was charged with robbing Sharmaine Khan of 330 diamond and gold rings valued at $1,850,215 on January 19 at Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain, while Raymond was charged with receiving two diamond rings valued at $13,000, the property of Khan's Gold Designs.
