TOP leader Ashworth Jack says the TOP is now doing a post mortem of the Tobago House of Assembly election and hasn't lodged any official complaint with the Elections and Boundaries Commission on the outcome. And he remains mum on whether or when he plans resigning from the TOP leadership.
Jack was asked about a reported claim that TOP was complaining officially to the EBC about alleged voter-padding in the January 21 election.
The Opposition PNM swept the 12 THA seats and in the process ousting Jack from not only the minority party place in the Assembly, but Jack himself from the Mason Hall seat.
The Elections and Boundaries Commission's communications division in Trinidad said it had not received any official TOP complaint. The EBC's Tobago officer Pamela Ogiste said the election process had gone smoothly and she had seen no sign of voter padding.
Jack said he knew nothing about the published report since he had been "out" for a few days, but was now back to work, and that the TOP was now settling down to doing a post mortem of the poll. He said the TOP "has been looking at some stuff" but declined to give details, and said no one had been authorised to issue a news release about voter padding.
Jack was asked whether he had spoken to the party or executive about his political future, as he promised last week to do. He then repeated that TOP was now reviewing the THA election.
Asked if he would resign, he declined comment saying he was at a meeting and had to go.
PNM leadership officials yesterday shrugged off the report about alleged voter padding. They called for evidence saying the PNM had worked hard and well for the victory and won, thanks to a combination of elements and the talent of planning expert Martin Joseph.
PNM chairman Franklin Khan said Joseph was consultant to the Tobago PNM which organised the campaign.
