Grief-stricken aunt Docy-Ann Harriott wants to face her brother's killer before her family returns to Jamaica to bury him next week. In a telephone interview, Harriott said she was finding it hard to forgive the 33-year-old woman who allegedly murdered her brother Michael Williams last Wednesday by stabbing him, leaving his twin baby girls fatherless.
Harriott said she hoped God would forgive the woman. She added: "I want to look her in the eyes and tell her that she got what she always wanted. She wanted my brother dead." Harriot said she and her sister Denise, 18, have been taking care of Williams' baby girls, Mikayla and Mikaylee Williams.
She said the children were now drinking baby formula as they no longer had access to breast milk. Even though the cost of the formula and the children's diapers were exorbitant, Harriott said they were receiving help from neighbours.
In the meantime, Harriott said her mother, Janice Harriot, was trying to raise funds for Williams' funeral. Harriott said the funeral would take place at their home in Pratville, Manchester, Jamaica, home. Janice was expected to come to Trinidad some time this week.
"We are trying to raise the money to take his body home. We need $12,000 and my mother is trying to raise the money at home," Harriott said. She said the police had been keeping in regular touch with them but they had no information about why the accused was not yet charged.
She said an official from the Jamaican High Commission had contacted them but they had not received any further correspondence. An official of the Jamaica High Commission in Port-of-Spain who spoke on behalf of High Commissioner Sharon Saunders said they would work towards assisting the family.
Williams, who was employed at a private security firm, was stabbed around 11 am on Wednesday after an argument with a female relative. Police found a knife at the scene of the crime. Homicide detectives said they were awaiting instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions before laying a charge. Investigations are continuing.
