A drug manufacturer is asking consumers, retailers and wholesalers to stop using or distributing four over-the-counter drugs. This is because the bottle caps are faulty. In a February 5 press release, Novartis Pharma Logistics Inc announced that it was recalling Triaminic Syrups, Theraflu Warming Relief Syrups, Jack & Jill brand paediatric syrups and Buckley's Complete Liquids.
"The child-resistant feature of the bottle cap may not function properly, enabling the cap to be removed with the tamper-evident seal in place," the company stated.Anyone who believes they may have products included in this recall should stop using them and return the products to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
Novartis Pharma Logistics says only products in the original bottles will be considered for a refund. The company says retailers and wholesalers should stop distributing the products and return them using the Novartis product return process.
The press release said Novartis Pharma Logistics had not been told of any adverse events because of the defects. In the US, Novartis Consumer Health Inc has received four such reports about Triaminic Syrups. The recalled products were manufactured in the US.
Novartis says the products are "still safe and effective when used as directed on the package label."
