The murder toll climbed to 39 yesterday after a 22-year-old man was killed in a gang-related shooting in Laventille.According to reports, around 1.45 pm residents of Dan Kelly Village, Laventille, reported hearing gunshots.They checked and found Dorian "Tiger" Weekes, of Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain, lying between two houses.
Weekes had several gunshot wounds to the head.Investigators believe Weekes was walking along the road to meet a friend who lived nearby when he was lured into the yard by his attackers.The occupants of the two houses where Weekes was found told police they did not see the gunmen because they were too frightened to look outside after hearing the gunshots.
Homicide detectives said Weekes was a known gang member in his community and might have been killed by a rival gang from Laventille.An autopsy will be done on his body at the Forensic Science Centre in St James today.Insp Sahadeo Singh and Cpl Charles Budrie visited the scene and are investigating.
