Seven arrested for stolen pickup truck
While many were priming up for J’Ouvert celebrations yesterday morning, police caught two men stripping a stolen pickup truck in Caparo on Sunday night. The police also arrested five other men after a high-speed car chase in connection with the incident.
The seven men, from Chase Village, Caparo, St Helena, Santa Cruz and Maraval, are assisting police with inquiries. According to a report, around 9 pm WPC Meharris, PC Dookie and PC Ramlal of the Brasso Police Station were on mobile patrol when they received information that a stolen Nissan Navara was being stripped at a garage at Chickland Road.
When the police got there they caught the men in the act. They told the police they had been given a job and the men who hired them were on their way there. The police waited and a short while later a B-13 pulled up, but when the occupants saw the police they sped off. The police gave chase and arrested the five occupants a short distance away.
They impounded the van and contacted their colleagues at the Stolen Vehicles Unit to help them find the owner of the van. Investigations are continuing.
