Four women re­mained hos­pi­talised yes­ter­day af­ter a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent in Trinci­ty on Mon­day, dur­ing which the dri­ver col­lid­ed with the me­di­an and caused the car to flip over on­to its hood.

Dri­ver Bet­ty Baal, 29, of Streatham Lodge Road, Tu­na­puna; Chami­la Mo­hammed, 37, of Gold­en Grove Road, Pi­ar­co; Sangee­ta Hee­tal, 51, of Kallicha­ran Road, Las Lo­mas; and Beena Khan, 47, of Las Lo­mas Main Road, were all said to be in a sta­ble con­di­tion yes­ter­day at the Er­ic Williams Med­ical Sci­ences Com­plex (EWM­SC), Mt Hope.

Around 4.50 am on Mon­day, Baal was pro­ceed­ing west along the Churchill-Roo­sevelt High­way, near the Trinci­ty in­ter­sec­tion, when an­oth­er ve­hi­cle sud­den­ly pulled in front of her, caus­ing her to veer to the right to avoid a crash. Baal col­lid­ed with a tree on the me­di­an be­fore los­ing con­trol of the grey Toy­ota Rav 4, which lat­er flipped over on­to its hood as it land­ed in the east­bound lane.

All four women re­ceived slight in­juries and were lat­er tak­en to the EWM­SC. In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent in Arou­ca, around 5.35 pm on Mon­day, the home of Matthew Lawrence at East­ern Main Road, Arou­ca, was com­plete­ly de­stroyed by fire. Lawrence, who is un­em­ployed, had gone to a near­by ice-cream par­lor, when he ob­served smoke com­ing from his house.

Rush­ing back, Lawrence dis­cov­ered the wood­en struc­ture well alight. Al­though rel­a­tives formed a buck­et brigade and at­tempt­ed to ex­tin­guish the blaze, this proved fu­tile. Dam­age has been es­ti­mat­ed at $9,000. The cause of the fire re­mained un­known yes­ter­day.
