Four women remained hospitalised yesterday after a vehicular accident in Trincity on Monday, during which the driver collided with the median and caused the car to flip over onto its hood.
Driver Betty Baal, 29, of Streatham Lodge Road, Tunapuna; Chamila Mohammed, 37, of Golden Grove Road, Piarco; Sangeeta Heetal, 51, of Kallicharan Road, Las Lomas; and Beena Khan, 47, of Las Lomas Main Road, were all said to be in a stable condition yesterday at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC), Mt Hope.
Around 4.50 am on Monday, Baal was proceeding west along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, near the Trincity intersection, when another vehicle suddenly pulled in front of her, causing her to veer to the right to avoid a crash. Baal collided with a tree on the median before losing control of the grey Toyota Rav 4, which later flipped over onto its hood as it landed in the eastbound lane.
All four women received slight injuries and were later taken to the EWMSC. In a separate incident in Arouca, around 5.35 pm on Monday, the home of Matthew Lawrence at Eastern Main Road, Arouca, was completely destroyed by fire. Lawrence, who is unemployed, had gone to a nearby ice-cream parlor, when he observed smoke coming from his house.
Rushing back, Lawrence discovered the wooden structure well alight. Although relatives formed a bucket brigade and attempted to extinguish the blaze, this proved futile. Damage has been estimated at $9,000. The cause of the fire remained unknown yesterday.
