The Rites of Spring, a pre­sen­ta­tion of Skan­dalus led by Lindy David­son and Nel­sia Ash­by out of Rox­bor­ough, has copped the Band of the Year ti­tle in To­ba­go with 1,334 points fol­low­ing the Pa­rade of the Bands in Scar­bor­ough on Car­ni­val Tues­day.

The an­nounce­ment was made at the post THA Ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil news con­fer­ence on Wednes­day by chair­man of the To­ba­go Fes­ti­vals Com­mit­tee Wen­dell Berkley who said the pa­rade of bands was of a very high stan­dard.

Tak­ing first place in the Small Band cat­e­go­ry was Min­strels of To­ba­go por­tray­ing Big Min­strels' Ju­bilee a Day at the Kings Court with 1,312 points. The band was led by Lenn Top­pin, hus­band of Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of the Peo­ple and So­cial De­vel­op­ment Ver­nel­la Al­leyne-Top­pin.

Lindy Melville and As­so­ciates with their pre­sen­ta­tion Gems won the Medi­um Band cat­e­go­ry with 1,245 points.Mean­while new­ly-ap­point­ed Sec­re­tary of Com­mu­ni­ty De­vel­op­ment and Cul­ture Dr Denise Tsoiafatt-An­gus has de­scribed Car­ni­val 2k13 as a suc­cess.

"I think it has been a suc­cess. I look at that in terms of cre­ativ­i­ty and the qual­i­ty of the per­for­mances in the pre­vi­ous two weeks and with­in the last two days the qual­i­ty of the bands and what they por­trayed, be­cause to me Car­ni­val is about telling the his­to­ry of your coun­try, telling about the so­cial state of your coun­try and you try to do it with art and en­ter­tain­ment," she said.
