The local chapter of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) has congratulated president-elect Anthony Carmona. In a statement yesterday, the society’s local representative, Bindra Dolsingh, congratulated Carmona on behalf of patron Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and members of the Commonwealth countries.

The statement said Carmona’s appointment “heralds the triumph of a son of the soil in this forging democracy as the Head of State and as Her Majesty’s Commonwealth representative in the Commonwealth family of nations.” Dolsingh’s said Carmona’s evenness, independence and relentless concerns for the nation’s youth was well demonstrated.

It said the appointment “brings happiness at Commonwealth House of London in this post-colonial era.”
