A 21-year-old Trinidad-born university student was stabbed to death by a gang of men at his university's campus in Maryland on Saturday night.Edmond St Clair, a junior biology major at the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, died early Sunday morning after being stabbed once in the chest in an argument with three men.
According to a report in the Baltimore Sun newspaper, around 9 pm on Saturday night, St Clair, his brother Isaiah, and a friend were driving through the Princess Anne Campus of the university, when they encountered a group of three men who were walking along the road but refused to move to let their car pass.
St Clair's brother and friend were visiting him for the university's homecoming weekend, the newspaper reported.Isaiah told the newspaper his brother got out of the car to talk to the men when he was attacked and stabbed."Isaiah said the men who stabbed Edmond lingered in the area before walking away from the crime scene," the report stated.
The report said Maryland State Police were seeking the three suspects, who were only identified as black men in their 20s.St Clair's mother, Marina Fletcher, told the newspaper her son was raised in Trinidad and moved to the United States after his father died about six years ago.
Fletcher said she had been gathering paperwork and financial aid to help her son apply to the Johns Hopkins University to become a surgeon.The report said St Clair was interested in music and produced music under the sobriquet Trini Wes."Friends, teachers and family members said he excelled in college, dreamed of becoming a doctor or surgeon and had a passion for producing reggae-style music," the report said.
