The choice of Jus­tice An­tho­ny Car­mona as the next pres­i­dent of T&T has re­ceived ac­cla­ma­tion from the Jus­tices of Peace of T&T (JOPATT).Sec­re­tary of JOPATT Dhan­raj Ram­nar­ine wel­comed the elec­tion of Jus­tice Car­mona who was unan­i­mous­ly rat­i­fied as T&T's fifth pres­i­dent when the elec­toral col­lege of Par­lia­ment was con­vened on Fri­day.

JOPATT met at its quar­ter­ly meet­ing at the Ch­agua­nas Bor­ough Coun­cil yes­ter­day and ex­tend­ed its con­grat­u­la­tions to Car­mona and the na­tion."JOPATT is ex­treme­ly pleased that Jus­tice An­tho­ny Car­mona will be our coun­try's next head of state. We salute the de­ci­sion of Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar and her Gov­ern­ment to elect him," he said.

"We feel that the vast ex­pe­ri­ence at both the na­tion­al and in­ter­na­tion­al lev­els in the prac­tice of ju­rispru­dence would set T&T in good stead. We are cer­tain that he would make a dif­fer­ence in steer­ing our na­tion to greater heights in the realm of in­ter­na­tion­al pol­i­tics and lead­er­ship," Ram­nar­ine added.

"What is even more heart­en­ing is Jus­tice Car­mona's warmth, peace­ful per­son­al­i­ty, dig­ni­ty and some­one who has come from a re­spectable fam­i­ly. These per­son­al­i­ty traits would cer­tain­ly rub of on the na­tion­al pop­u­lace and would be wor­thy of em­u­la­tion to our young peo­ple," Ram­nar­ine added.

JOPATT re­calls Jus­tice Car­mona ad­dress­ing one of its sem­i­nars on the "Role and Func­tion of JPs" sev­er­al years ago, say­ing the in­for­ma­tion he im­part­ed made a great im­pres­sion on its mem­ber­ship. "We hope at some lat­er date when he set­tles in the pres­i­den­cy, JOPATT would in­vite him again to share his ex­pe­ri­ence and thoughts on the whole con­cept of ju­rispru­dence, es­pe­cial­ly as it re­lates to JPs," Ram­nar­ine said.
