Toco police make $2.5m ganja bust (with CNC3 video)

Eastern Division Police and army officers inspect the $2.5 million in marijuana which was seized in a police exercise in Toco on Saturday afternoon.

A 38-year-old man has been arrested following the seizure of more than $2.5 million in high-grade marijuana in Toco on Saturday. The man, who resides at East Dry River, Port-of-Spain, was arrested along the Toco Main Road by Eastern Division Police around 4 pm. The lawmen were conducting a road block exercise when they noticed the suspect driving erratically in his wagon. 

 

The driver was stopped and the vehicle searched. The drugs which were stored in ten crocus bags and wrapped in 75 plastic bundles were recovered in the back of the vehicle. The sizeable haul weighed 115 kilos, police said. The driver was arrested and later charged with marijuana trafficking. He will appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate this morning. 

 

Drug bust in Toco

Investigators belive that the drugs were smuggled into Trinidad from St Vincent, through a fishing village along the northeast coast. Senior Supt Dianand Niapaul, ASP Odette Lewis, Sgt Ramlakhan and Cpl Nicholas Vialva were involved in the exercise.
