National Security Minister Jack Warner gave a full report to Cabinet yesterday on the Mervyn Cordner Flying Squad issue and will deliver a statement on it, as well as the crime situation, at this afternoon's House of Representatives session, a government official said yesterday.
The official spoke after yesterday's weekly Cabinet meeting. There was no press briefing.Also at today's House sitting–private members day–debate will continue on an Opposition motion by PNM's Patricia McIntosh on the Government Assistance for Tertiary Education (Gate) programme.
There are also questions on the agenda concerning agricultural procedures and Los Iros tourism facilities.Government officials said no decision was taken at yesterday's Cabinet meeting on the issue of Tobago PNM leader Orville London's proposal for two councillors to be appointed to the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) to substitute for minority representation.
That was to have been discussed at yesterday's Cabinet meeting.Officials said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is scheduled to meet London at 3 pm today and depending on the outcome of those talks, maybe there would be need for a Cabinet decision on those or other issues.
After the PNM won all 12 seats in the January 21 THA election, London proposed that legislation governing the THA should be amended to allow the President to use his discretion to appoint two councillors to the assembly.
