Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Orville London has said he will make recommendations to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to "institutionalise" the meetings between the office holders.
"I'm also going to recommend to the prime minister that we should institutionalise these meetings instead of leaving it to the whim and fancy of anyone," London said."I am suggesting quarterly, non-crisis meetings between the PM and the chief secretary.
"I think if we put it down like that it takes away a lot of the challenge from both sides."London, resoundingly re-elected chief secretary last month, was speaking after announcing that the meeting scheduled for yesterday between himself and the PM at her St Clair office had been postponed.
The disclosure was made at the post-executive council news conference on Wednesday.London said the meeting was postponed because the PM was in Haiti attending a meeting of Caricom heads of government.
"I wish to indicate that the meeting with the prime minister would have been postponed, on the request of the prime minister from Thursday at 4 pm to Friday at 3 pm," he said."I was informed that the prime minister would not be in the country, because she would still be in in Haiti, and therefore the request for the postponement was made.
"And of course I was very happy to oblige," London said. The THA leader said the agenda for the meeting remained the same. It includes internal self-government for Tobago, housing, the relationship between government ministers and secretaries of the THA, and the revitalisation of Tobago's economy.
