All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. So said founder, president and chief executive officer of Praise City International Bishop Dave Alleyne as he quoted Edmund Burke's famous words at the ministry's recent commemoration service, titled Remembering the Holocaust.
The United Nation celebrated the commemoration of the Holocaust on January 27.It was a special ceremony held at Flaming Word Ministry in observance of the six million Jews who died in the Holocaust.
That, Alleyne said was a reminder and a lesson to let the world know that "we must never forget and never again sit back and allow state-sponsored discrimination, alienation, suppression and oppression of any group of people within its society."
He said people should remember the profound words of Martin Niemoller, the protestant pastor who spoke out against Adolf Hitler, by saying 'first they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out–Because I was not a socialist.'
Alleyne said: "What happens to one can happen to all. We must all rally around minorities to bring equanimity in society."Citizens must be cognisant that extremists political movements do not suddenly rise to power in a vacuum but do so as a result of latent instability of the society in which they exist."
He said silence must be broken as doctors, lawyers, scientists, magistrates, engineers, teachers, contractors, workers and trade unionists got involved in designing the future of the nation and the Caribbean.
Meanwhile, recently crowned 2013 Chutney Soca Monarch, Raymond Ramnarine paid tribute to Alleyne who celebrated his birthday with a special reception at the ministry recently.
Among those celebrating with him were Grammy nominee, Kyron Leslie of Atlanta and Barbados sensation Nickita who sang alongside Patti Labelle.
