National Security Minister Jack Warner did not deliver his promised report on the alleged revival of the Flying Squad in Parliament yesterday as he had said. Warner had said he would report to the Parliament on the issue yesterday.
But yesterday morning, a ministry spokesman said Warner would not address Parliament but would instead deliver a report on the issue to the Prime Minister first, as she had requested on her return to T&T on Thursday. That night, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar had said she wanted the report before Warner made the statement in Parliament.
Warner reported to Cabinet on the issue on Thursday, officials had said. Yesterday, before meeting THA Chief Secretary Orville London at 3pm, Persad-Bissessar met with heads of the protective services. That meeting was scheduled for 2.15 pm. The PM came to the Parliament Chamber first and chatted with Warner and other MPs close by before heading to the protective services meeting at 2.14 pm.
Warner did not accompany her but left the chamber at 2.18 pm and was subsequently reported to be at the meeting. Fyzabad MP Chandresh Sharma was not in Parliament yesterday afternoon to respond to reporters' queries on reports President-elect Anthony Carmona was unhappy over banners bearing pictures of himself and Sharma mounted outside the MP's constituency office.
Sharma didn't answer calls either. The Office of the President said it had no directive to respond on the issue.
