Hafeez Karamath Ltd (HKL) continues in its role as the sponsor of the Aranguez Sports Club (ASC) for the 2013 National Premier League, the highest national cricket division of the T&T Cricket Board. Not only has HKL remained faithful to the ASC, which celebrates its 89th anniversary this year, but the construction company has also adopted the little-known St Joseph United Sports Club (SJU) of Maracas, St Joseph.
HKL took the ASC under its wings in 2011 and last year HKL ASC, captained by T&T's Under-19 skipper Vikash Mohan, dominated the East-North-East championship division taking both the first and reserve league titles.
In staying true to the legacy left by his brother the late Hafeez Karamath, Yashmid Karamath said business enterprises must play their part in fulfilling the aspirations of young people, especially those in need of the most help. He said it was with this in mind that he agreed to assist the SJU.
"I exhort you to work very hard because only persistency and by the sweat of your brow can get you to where that air is particularly rare," he told SJU's coach/player Kassa Farrier and player Stuart Harry. When not competing in various tournaments, the ASC has found time to positively impact the community of Aranguez with some 200 children participating in the club's cricket/football coaching clinic.
The club's president, Sharaz Mohammed, noted the club still continues to assist in the development of well-rounded citizens through sports and academics and some of the outstanding members the club have produced over the years include national and West Indies team members Charran Singh, Imtiaz Ali, Vernon Sadaphal and Fyzudeen Haniff.
