Hafeez Kara­math Ltd (HKL) con­tin­ues in its role as the spon­sor of the Aranguez Sports Club (ASC) for the 2013 Na­tion­al Pre­mier League, the high­est na­tion­al crick­et di­vi­sion of the T&T Crick­et Board. Not on­ly has HKL re­mained faith­ful to the ASC, which cel­e­brates its 89th an­niver­sary this year, but the con­struc­tion com­pa­ny has al­so adopt­ed the lit­tle-known St Joseph Unit­ed Sports Club (SJU) of Mara­cas, St Joseph.

HKL took the ASC un­der its wings in 2011 and last year HKL ASC, cap­tained by T&T's Un­der-19 skip­per Vikash Mo­han, dom­i­nat­ed the East-North-East cham­pi­onship di­vi­sion tak­ing both the first and re­serve league ti­tles.

In stay­ing true to the lega­cy left by his broth­er the late Hafeez Kara­math, Yash­mid Kara­math said busi­ness en­ter­pris­es must play their part in ful­fill­ing the as­pi­ra­tions of young peo­ple, es­pe­cial­ly those in need of the most help. He said it was with this in mind that he agreed to as­sist the SJU.

"I ex­hort you to work very hard be­cause on­ly per­sis­ten­cy and by the sweat of your brow can get you to where that air is par­tic­u­lar­ly rare," he told SJU's coach/play­er Kas­sa Far­ri­er and play­er Stu­art Har­ry. When not com­pet­ing in var­i­ous tour­na­ments, the ASC has found time to pos­i­tive­ly im­pact the com­mu­ni­ty of Aranguez with some 200 chil­dren par­tic­i­pat­ing in the club's crick­et/foot­ball coach­ing clin­ic.

The club's pres­i­dent, Sharaz Mo­hammed, not­ed the club still con­tin­ues to as­sist in the de­vel­op­ment of well-round­ed cit­i­zens through sports and aca­d­e­mics and some of the out­stand­ing mem­bers the club have pro­duced over the years in­clude na­tion­al and West In­dies team mem­bers Char­ran Singh, Im­ti­az Ali, Ver­non Sadaphal and Fyzudeen Han­iff.
