Landfill fires no longer serious threats
The T&T Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) says the fires which broke out at the Forres Park and Beetham landfills last week have been extinguished completely. In two separate press releases issued yesterday, SWMCOL said it wished to inform the general public that the fires were “now 100 per cent extinguished”.
It said the situation at the Beetham landfill site was no longer deemed to be a serious threat. The company said it regretted the inconvenience caused by the Forres Park landfill fire and urged affected community members to seek help if necessary. It said individuals in need of assistance could contact SWMCOL’s communication specialist Alison Awai, the Couva/Talparo/Tabaquite Regional Corporation or the Red Cross.
SWMCOL also thanked its support services stakeholders including the Ministry of Local Government, the T&T Fire Service, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) and the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) for their assistance in dealing with the fires. The release said Awai can be contacted at: 473-7006 or [email protected]
