Machel Monday?
"The justice system did its job and God is the boss," a relieved Machel Montano said yesterday, an hour after he was sentenced by magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor. Montano spoke with reporters while embracing a jubilant Dana Seetahal at her chambers. Montano and Kernal Roberts were ordered to pay fines and compensation to the victims of a 2007 assault. The hearing closed the book on the five-year-long saga which resulted in his being found guilty of four counts of assault and using obscene language.

Sea Lots protests
Pandemonium broke out again Monday morning in Sea Lots, Port-of-Spain as residents continued protest action demanding justice for the deaths of 28-year-old Haydee Paul and her daughters—Ruthie, eight, and Shakira, seven— who were knocked down killed on the Beetham Highway near Pioneer Drive on Sunday. The three other victims of the crash—Amanda Lalla, 26, Abigail Assing and Ryan Dahl—also of Pioneer Drive, remained warded at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit up to late yesterday. The residents are claiming the off duty policeman who knocked down Paul and her two daughters were drunk at the time of the accident.

Fired over Facebook
Darryl Heeralal was Monday fired as a freelance television reporter by WIN Communications, after he posted statements deemed racially offensive on Facebook on Sunday. After his firing, Heeralal put another posting on Facebook, this time an apology.
