May­or of Ch­agua­nas Or­lan­do Nages­sar hopes Car­ni­val next year would be big­ger and more cre­ative than this year.He said there was al­ways room for im­prove­ment and ex­pect­ed that the cre­ative and la­tent tal­ents of the peo­ple of Ch­agua­nas and en­vi­rons would be ful­ly demon­strat­ed on the stage next year.Nages­sar not­ed that Car­ni­val 2013 in Ch­agua­nas was crime-free and was op­ti­mistic that this ac­com­plish­ment would be du­pli­cat­ed in 2014 and be­yond.

Thou­sands of dol­lars were giv­en out to win­ners last week­end in the scores of com­pe­ti­tions held over the Car­ni­val week.Chase Vil­lage Car­ni­val's At D Movies won the Band of the Year ti­tle, cop­ping $12,000, while House of Jacqui with H20–The essence of Life won the sec­ond prize, net­ting $8,000.

Oth­er prizes in­clud­ed: In­di­vid­ual of the Year (Fe­male) Caris­sa Mo­hammed with Let's Dance the Jit­ter­bug; while Is­abelle An­drews, La Belle de Car­ni­val, was sec­ond. In­di­vid­ual of the Year (Male) was Dam­as­cus Siew­nar­ine por­tray­ing In­cy Win­cy Spi­der; with Mark Gue­vara, Ants, sec­ond and Dim­itri Sien­ar­ine third with Cap­tain T&T.

In the Chut­ney sec­tion, Delis Bis­ram, Ken­neth Su­per­sad and Amela Sookdeo placed first, sec­ond and third re­spec­tive­ly.In the Ca­lyp­so Monarch com­pe­ti­tion, Mar­lon Ed­wards placed first, while Ezekiel Yorke was sec­ond and Alau­ric Skeete emerged third. Mor­isha Ran­some was fourth.
