Mayor of Chaguanas Orlando Nagessar hopes Carnival next year would be bigger and more creative than this year.He said there was always room for improvement and expected that the creative and latent talents of the people of Chaguanas and environs would be fully demonstrated on the stage next year.Nagessar noted that Carnival 2013 in Chaguanas was crime-free and was optimistic that this accomplishment would be duplicated in 2014 and beyond.
Thousands of dollars were given out to winners last weekend in the scores of competitions held over the Carnival week.Chase Village Carnival's At D Movies won the Band of the Year title, copping $12,000, while House of Jacqui with H20–The essence of Life won the second prize, netting $8,000.
Other prizes included: Individual of the Year (Female) Carissa Mohammed with Let's Dance the Jitterbug; while Isabelle Andrews, La Belle de Carnival, was second. Individual of the Year (Male) was Damascus Siewnarine portraying Incy Wincy Spider; with Mark Guevara, Ants, second and Dimitri Sienarine third with Captain T&T.
In the Chutney section, Delis Bisram, Kenneth Supersad and Amela Sookdeo placed first, second and third respectively.In the Calypso Monarch competition, Marlon Edwards placed first, while Ezekiel Yorke was second and Alauric Skeete emerged third. Morisha Ransome was fourth.
