Warner continues to deny Flying Squad's existence
Minister of National Security Jack Warner is expected to hand over his report on the Flying Squad today to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who is head of the National Security Council.Warner has also been mandated to submit a report from director of the National Security Operations Centre (NSCO) Garvin Heerah.
Retired police inspector Mervyn Cordner has claimed Warner recalled him last year to head the New Flying Squad Investigations Unit (NFSIU). Warner has denied the unit exists. He asked for a report from Heerah after he was implicated in the matter but Persad-Bissessar also ordered an explanation from Warner.
Such a unit would have had to be sanctioned by acting Commissioner of Police Stephen Williams but apparently operated outside the Police Service from July last year, since Williams has denied any knowledge of its existence.
