An intoxicated driver who went to the Brasso Police Station to renew his firearm licence was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Hilerium Subero, 52, a labourer of Tabaquite, who had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system when driving, admitted to the police that he drove himself to the station.
When Subero walked into the station on Tuesday, the officers observed that his breath had a strong odour and his speech was slurred.He was subjected to a breathalyser test which recorded a reading of 97 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.Subero was charged by PC Ramlochan and the next day he appeared before Couva Magistrate Gail Gonzales who slapped him with a $4,000 fine. He was ordered to pay the money in two weeks.
Meanwhile, gardener Robert Villafana, 46, appeared before Magistrate Gonzales for cursing PC Julio Villafana (no relation) a week after he was reprimanded and discharged by the same magistrate for threatening to chop his neighbour.This time the magistrate fined him $200 for cursing the officer.In ordering him to pay the fine forthwith, the magistrate also urged him to try and not return before her before the end of the week.
