Missing 81 year old found
Two weeks of prayers and vigils for the return of missing pensioner Rosie Ramoutar ended in bad news yesterday when police discovered her remains in a canefield. Around 3 am, a team of Central Division Task Force officers led by Supt Abraham and Cpl Barrow, accompanied by the Canine Unit, began their search in a forested area off Arena Road, Caparo. By 4 am, the body of the 81-year-old grandmother had been found in a canefield approximately two miles from her Chickland, Caparo home.
Police said there were no visible signs of violence but the body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Ramoutar was last seen cleaning her yard on February 16. Relatives told police that she walked across the road to dump garbage and when she failed to return home on the same night, they made a missing person's report at the Brasso Police Station.
Ramoutar's son Siewdath Ramoutar said he could not imagine how his mother got to the canefield, and will have to await the outcome of police investigations. He said although his mother suffered from Alzheimer's, she was an active person who cleaned, cooked and washed for herself. The woman's son who was at home when police made the discovery, said when he got the news of the discovery of the body he couldn't do anything at all. Brasso police are continuing investigations.
