The murder toll keeps rising. It's now at 83.The country's latest murder victim was identified as 24-year-old Karim Audine from Laventille.He was gunned down in a taxi on Friday evening while in the company of a 12-year-old schoolboy who remains in critical condition at hospital.The taxi driver who escaped injuries took Audine and the boy–Jerome Bowen of Stoute Hill–to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital after they were shot at several times.
Audine lived at Block 22.Reports are that around 4 pm on Friday, Audine and Bowen, who was in his school uniform, were in the taxi heading to Laventille when in the vicinity of Desperlie Crescent, a gunman pointed a gun at the car and indicated to the driver to stop.Another gunman came out from the bushes at the back of the car and began firing several shots. Audine was hit in his head and chest.
Bowen was shot in his abdomen and left leg.The men then ran away and the driver drove straight to the hospital where Audine was pronounced dead on arrival.ASP Ajith Persad and Insp Sahadeo Singh are continuing investigations.
