Point Fortin MP Paula Gopee-Scoon says the people in her constituency are being short-changed in the construction of the San Fernando to Point Fortin Highway.Speaking at Monday night's Peoples National Movement meeting at Market Square, Point Fortin, she described the $7.2 billion highway as a haven for corruption.
Gopee-Scoon said the route had not yet been finalised and negotiations for compensation for Point Fortin residents were incomplete."Our people are being short-changed," she added. She said there was no word on job creation and given the Joint Consultative Council (JCC) report she expected more delays in the construction.
She accused the Government of dragging its feet on several other projects in the constituency, including the construction of a new Point Fortin Hospital, Chatham Community Centre, repairs to the non-functional sewage system in Techier Village and severals schools.Listing several projects and issues she made representation on, Gopee Scoon also defended her performance as a MP.
She said: "And you know they write and say that the MP don't do anything for them. I can tell you I have the evidence here, in fact ah shame, too many request floating from the (south western) peninsula and they doing nothing about it."Gopee-Scoon said among the correspondence she sent were construction of the main water course at Icacos, bridge repair at South Central Main Road, the Southern Main Road Cap-de-Ville to Chatham junction, Jackson Trace, Buenos Ayres and Chatham Beach Road.
