Many teenage girls aren't aware what sexual offences are, a female police officer said yesterday while commenting on the sexual assault of a 14-year-old school child. On Saturday, a Rousillac teenager reported to Oropouche police almost a year after the incident occurred that she was held down, stripped and had oral sex performed on her by a homeless man.
In fact, she was assaulted by the man three times in 2012 and it was only during a conversation with her mother on Friday night at their Aripero home that she broke her silence on the ordeal. The officer said most girls understand that rape occurs when they are forced to have sex, but do not know being touched indecently is a sexual offence.A report said that around 8.30 am on Saturday, the victim, who is a student at a Fyzabad secondary school, went to the police station with her 35-year-old mother and reported she had been assaulted by a homeless man she knew.
The incidents happened between January and February, October and November and December 2012.On each occasion, she was outside her house disposing of garbage when her attacker dragged her into an abandoned house, just two lots away from where she lives.Police said the child is to be medically examined tomorrow by DMO Dr Carmona. Meanwhile the suspect remains at large up to yesterday.
