Four Trinmar workers injured in crash at sea
Four employees at Petrotrin’s Trinmar operation were taken for emergency treatment on Tuesday night, after a security patrol vessel crashed into an oil well. The incident occurred around 8.45 pm as the Inland and Offshore Contractors Limited (IOCL) boat, named The Warrior, was transporting security officers to a platform in the Soldado East Fields. One of the security officers received several cuts to his hands while the boat’s engineer sustained a fractured wrist and a gash to the chin.
The injured men were taken to Petrotrin’s medical department in Point Fortin where they were examined and treated. In a telephone interview yesterday, IOCL operation manager Scot Pollonais said the accident was caused by human error as the boat’s captain did not see the oil well in time to manoeuvre around it.
