Attorney General Anand Ramlogan was told to "stay out of woman business."He brought up the infamous hugging of US President Barrack Obama by Point Fortin MP Paula Gopee-Scoon when she was minister of Foreign Affairs.Ramlogan was speaking in the Parliament on Friday after Gopee-Scoon made her contribution on the Defence (Amendment) Bill 2013, which was later passed in the Lower House.
He commented that the Point Fortin MP had the audacity to speak about tact and diplomacy but was known for "grabbing" the US President.Laventille East/Morvant MP Donna Cox got on her feet asking Mark what was the relevance to the bill.Cox said, "Mr Speaker, this bill is not about the MP for Point Fortin."Mark told Ramlogan to stick to relevance.
However, in continuing, Ramlogan said. "She 'hogged' the spotlight in this Parliament for an hour and a half."That prompted laughter in the House and again Cox rose to her feet. She said, "What is the relevance? This debate is not about the Member for Point Fortin."He needs to stay out of woman business."Mark said the temperature was rising and asked Ramlogan "to be kind enough to link your points."
"I know that you are referring to what the Member for Point Fortin had said earlier but could you link your points so that you won't border on irrelevance."The AG said when such an act happened, it was an international embarrassment especially when the Government was seeking to partner with international law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.
