4 officers arrested for murder
An acting police inspector assigned to the San Juan Municipal Police Station, along with three Special Reserve Police officers, has been detained in connection with the kidnapping and suspected murder of a Maloney man.The T&T Guardian confirmed the four were detained last Friday by Northern Division police.The senior officer has 23 years' service and was said to be in his early 40s, while the SRPs are said to be in their 20s.
The four have been kept at various stations, including Arouca, Pinto Road, Tunapuna and Central since they were detained, and are being rotated daily.Sources confirmed one of the SRPs had been placed under suicide watch, after he tried to take his life on the weekend.The T&T Guardian learnt that police led by ACP Wayne Dick and Snr Supt David Abraham converged on the San Juan Municipal Police Station on March 14 and seized an unmarked police vehicle, firearms and other items.
Forensic and DNA tests were expected to be done as investigations continue.Although police are yet to approach the Director of Public Prosecutions for instructions, the T&T Guardian was informed that acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams was set to meet with senior officers yesterday to discuss the issue. Calls to Williams' cellphone went unanswered.
