The Media Association (MATT) will hold its biennial general meeting and election of an executive on Saturday.At a special general meeting of the membership held in May 2012, an interim executive was elected.The executive members elected in May were:
�2 Suzanne Sheppard, president.
�2 Ira Mathur, assistant secretary.
�2 Anthony Gittens, treasurer.
�2 Kevin Baldeosingh, floor member.
They joined vice president Judy Raymond, secretary Francesca Hawkins and floor member Laura Dowrich-Phillips. Matt's trustees are former presidents Marlan Hopkinson and Joanne Briggs.The general meeting and election will be held at the Hotel Normandie, St Ann's, from 1 pm. The interim president will present reports.
All members and prospective members of Matt are urged to attend. All financial members may vote for a new executive, and members can pay their annual subscriptions or join the association at the meeting.At the special general meeting in May, members voted to amend the criteria for membership under the association's constitution.
Matt is now open not only to anyone who a) works with a media house on staff or b) freelances for media houses, but also anyone who c) writes and/or curates a blog or other new-media publication or d) is involved in journalism education or promotion of the values and tenets of journalism. Probationary membership was abolished.Practitioners who work in communications, advertising and similar fields may join Matt as associate members, but are not eligible to stand for office or vote in elections.
