The Me­dia As­so­ci­a­tion (MATT) will hold its bi­en­ni­al gen­er­al meet­ing and elec­tion of an ex­ec­u­tive on Sat­ur­day.At a spe­cial gen­er­al meet­ing of the mem­ber­ship held in May 2012, an in­ter­im ex­ec­u­tive was elect­ed.The ex­ec­u­tive mem­bers elect­ed in May were:

�2 Suzanne Shep­pard, pres­i­dent.

�2 Ira Math­ur, as­sis­tant sec­re­tary.

�2 An­tho­ny Git­tens, trea­sur­er.

�2 Kevin Baldeosingh, floor mem­ber.

They joined vice pres­i­dent Judy Ray­mond, sec­re­tary Francesca Hawkins and floor mem­ber Lau­ra Dowrich-Phillips. Matt's trustees are for­mer pres­i­dents Mar­lan Hop­kin­son and Joanne Brig­gs.The gen­er­al meet­ing and elec­tion will be held at the Ho­tel Nor­mandie, St Ann's, from 1 pm. The in­ter­im pres­i­dent will present re­ports.

All mem­bers and prospec­tive mem­bers of Matt are urged to at­tend. All fi­nan­cial mem­bers may vote for a new ex­ec­u­tive, and mem­bers can pay their an­nu­al sub­scrip­tions or join the as­so­ci­a­tion at the meet­ing.At the spe­cial gen­er­al meet­ing in May, mem­bers vot­ed to amend the cri­te­ria for mem­ber­ship un­der the as­so­ci­a­tion's con­sti­tu­tion.

Matt is now open not on­ly to any­one who a) works with a me­dia house on staff or b) free­lances for me­dia hous­es, but al­so any­one who c) writes and/or cu­rates a blog or oth­er new-me­dia pub­li­ca­tion or d) is in­volved in jour­nal­ism ed­u­ca­tion or pro­mo­tion of the val­ues and tenets of jour­nal­ism. Pro­ba­tion­ary mem­ber­ship was abol­ished.Prac­ti­tion­ers who work in com­mu­ni­ca­tions, ad­ver­tis­ing and sim­i­lar fields may join Matt as as­so­ciate mem­bers, but are not el­i­gi­ble to stand for of­fice or vote in elec­tions.
