While COP chairman Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan says she's "pleased" no matter involving colleague Anil Roberts has been sent to the DPP, she maintains Roberts has been asked to attend a COP meeting today to discuss "the accusations" against him.She claimed her quotations in a previous T&T Guardian article on the issue–for which Roberts is suing her–had referred to a principle" and wasn't indicting Roberts.
Seepersad-Bachan, in a statement, said: "As COP chairman it is my duty to ensure that we as a party adhere to our basic principles and in matters where our members, especially our senior members are involved, we need to get their sides of the story. We did this recently when Mr Vernon de Lima was accused of being part of a plot to destabilise the country.
"Even though the minister (Roberts) isn't facing any action, the accusation has been made and his party is fully prepared to stand behind him if it is that he is being unjustly accused. Our position is that Minister Roberts has been invited to a meeting of the executive to discuss the accusations against him. Our political leader, Prakash Ramadhar, is in full accord with this."Roberts said yesterday he isn't attending any meeting.
