The mat­ter against a con­struc­tion work­er who al­leged­ly burnt his com­mon-law wife in an at­tempt to mur­der her is ex­pect­ed to start on May 1.Har­ryper­sad Singh, 31, of Her­mitage Vil­lage, San Fer­nan­do, is out on bail.He re-ap­peared yes­ter­day be­fore Deputy Chief Mag­is­trate Mark Welling­ton in the San Fer­nan­do First Court on a charge of at­tempt­ed mur­der of An­drea Badree, 28.

Badree, who had vis­i­ble scars about her chest, neck, hands and face, was al­so in court.It is al­leged that Singh threw a flam­ma­ble liq­uid on Badree at their home on March 3, 2012. Badree, a moth­er of two, spent sev­er­al months in hos­pi­tal. She suf­fered burns to 40 per cent of her body. Cpl Ram­lo­gan, the com­plainant, was al­so in court.
