‘No pain, No gain’ - Lara, Boldon to inspire students
Secondary School students from across the country will have four days to rub shoulders with some of the country’s icons and role models at this year’s Secondary Schools leadership symposium No Pain, No Gain, which will be held from Monday April 8—Thursday April 11, at the Cascadia Conference Centre, St Ann’s.
The four-day event, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Sport and Atlantic LNG, will be hosted by The Sports Desk. The event is in its 14th year and some 300 students have been accepted to attend.
Legendary international cricketer Brian Lara and ESPN sports analyst Ato Boldon, both of whom have distinguished themselves on and off the field, will get the symposium started today, with motivational speaker Don La Foucade, also adding to the first day experience.
Lara said he was eagerly looking forward to meeting the future leaders of Trinidad and Tobago and he’s hopeful that his presence and message would help inspire them. Lara will speak on leadership while Boldon will discuss the difference between arrogance and confidence. La Foucade will speak on the purpose of purpose.
Also facilitating will be Olympians, Njisane Phillip, Marc Burns, Jehue Gordon.
Students will also hear from international boxing champion Ria Ramnarine and T&T youth ambassador Kwanieze John, as well as motivational speaker Joseph O Brien. Co-ordinator Valentino Singh, sports editor of the T&T Guardian, said he was quite pleased at the response this year, which he described as overwhelming. “Unfortunately we can facilitate only a limited number of students and as we have said it is on a first come first serve basis, so the first 300 students have made it.”
The symposium is free to all fifth and sixth form students.
Also supporting this year’s event are: Toyota, the National Gas Company, RBC, bpTT, The Fan Club, the Sports Company of T&T, and LLB, which is the official drink of the event.
